Ideal presents

January 31st, 2009

It can be a nightmare trying to think of a present for a close friend . The last resort gifts like gift tokens or smelly stuff , might be ok for distant friends or relatives, but if you like the person well enough to know that they are in to creating beats , then you feel a certain desire to assist them to compose their own music .

The UK Channel 5 TV series the Gadget Show, with the delightful Suzi Perry, did a musical technology round-up recently . They featured a top 5 pick of music making devices , but the audience panel picked the Korg Kaoscillator as their overall winner.

Great you think. They probably won’t have one if these weird little things already! But then you find Korg have no stock, possibly for 3 months. A bit of a late present that one.

But fear not because the Internet has a virtual alternative. I found out about the Chaos Wave Synth by accident as a video on the Web Video Widget network. It isn’t a copy of, but an inspiration based upon the Korg. None the less, it is still yellow, hmm that will remind them of you every day, and it certainly seems to make the same sort of “noises”. It’s called the Chaos Wave Synth and you can watch the video at their website. If you have enough laptops, you could even form the first chaos orchestra.

I say noises, but actually, with a little practice in the right hands and it seems to be quite a stonking musical instrument, with a wide range of tones and playing possibilities.

If you’re as old as I am, the XY pad (a sort of touch pad) seems a little reminiscent of the Dubrek Stylophone, infamised by Rolf De Harris, or the theremin, that wand like instrument featured heavily in 1950’s sci-fi B movies and in the Beach Boys record.

It certainly seems capable of producing those sort of tones as well, but have a sneaking feeling it will be the drum beats and bas lines that those young generation will get absorbed in to.

Being software it does need a computer, but that can be a laptop. Either way, there should be a way of getting headphones on it, to prevent aunt Mildred from being sucked up in to the heavy metal at the gathering.

Giving musical instruments as presents, is always a bit of an issue in my book. Give a 5 year old a drum kit, and he will play (bang) it all day, much to everyone elses shragrala. So as this can be on headphones, it’s a much safer bet in my book.

It’s available as a download, so there’s no queuing at the shops to get it either and it should still be open, even on the day itself. So if the thought of traipsing around the shops gets too mind numbing for you, you may want to buy yourself a copy too. Even without any musical skill, it can be pretty entertaining.

Aah the gift of presents. It just fills you, doesn’t it? But I’m buying one for myself too. Don’t see why the youngsters should have all the fun ;-)

Happy days.

Mexican, Italian & Diabetic Recipes

January 31st, 2009

I have been greatly privileged to have traveled a great deal throughout the world and I enjoy eating great and delicious foods taken from many different parts of the world. One of the places that I love to visit is South America and I absolutely love dealing with mexican food recipes as the food for me is much like the people in terms of the way that they talk and interact with each other. I normally make sure that I get to sample some mexican food at least once a month as if I do not then I find that it feels as though I am really missing something from my cuisine intake. One of the things I have done recently is to learn how to prepare mexican food so that I can enjoy this wonderful type of foods in the comfort of my own home.

As I travel around the world I also have grown to really appreciate italian foods and in line with this I really love to visit Italy as it is close to where I am currently living in the United Kingdom. I love to visit Rome and to sample some of the very best authentic italian food and that really satisfies some of my deepest desires as I look to expand on  my cultural experiences.

Some people are diabetic and have to focus on for her she has to focus on diabetic recipes as of course the foods they eat determines exactly how she will be able to go about their everyday activities and chores. With that said, all types of food are wonderful to those who love to eat. Note that the information provided in the Diabetic Recipes resource is for information purposes only and should not be taken as medical advice.

Holistic Dog Health is Practiced by Holistic Vets

January 31st, 2009

Today there are an increasing number of veterinarians who are putting great stock in holistic dog health, making it a large part of their practice. A veterinarian who practices holistic pet care treats animals as a whole, rather than identifying a certain problem and prescribing one type of treatment related to that specific injury or illness.

For instance, if your dog has suddenly come down with some sort of rash on his skin causing irritation, redness, itching, a possible infection, and some fur loss, a “regular” vet would probably prescribe an antibiotic to treat the skin infection and then perhaps a topical ointment to address the itching.

A holistic veterinarian may also prescribe those two remedies, but there will be more emphasis on finding out what could have caused the rash to occur in the first place, which, of course, was the root of the infection. With holistic care, the dog’s indoor and outdoor environment, his daily lifestyle, eating habits and nutritional intake are all taken into consideration before attempting to diagnose or treat the animal.

If you cannot locate a holistic vet, the next best thing is to find a vet who is open to alternative treatment methods – one who is at least willing to listen to your views on the care and treatment of your dog, and take those views into account when dealing with dog health.

So if you want a holistic approach to dog health for your dog, and your current vet is dead against this, or even worse, tells you that you do not know what you are talking about and belittles your concerns, it may be time to find another vet who is more open to your way of thinking. First look around for a holistic vet, and if you cannot find one in your area, seek out a vet who does not dismiss alternative methods and is willing to integrate them into your dog health care regime.
